Carrie (2013)
First you have an establishing shot of the setting which is the house, the mother is singing which makes it feel homely and safe like when your mother sings to a child a night to make them fall asleep. At this point the audience don't think of a horror movie but when we get a shot of inside the house you start to hear the screaming of Carrie. The first piece of text is straight after the first shot, its on a plain black background and the righting is simple and white. This has no real effect however the title suggest that there is a weird and uncomfortable tone to the trailer. The sound and the editing works well as the bashing of the door and the rattling of the lock then flows into the production and distributor companies with the roaring of the lion so the sound match. The you see the next glimpse of the second setting which is the school, this shows the audience that this film is about younger teens, The mid shot of Carrie at he desk shows her emotion and how upset she is with all the other students laughing at her also you can tell this through the tone of Carries voice which is layered over the top. When Carrie says 'normal' you get a mid shot showing a male with no top of kissing a beautiful blonde girl. The shows the audience what the society of younger girls like normal is, it also shows bulling after in the next shot which zooms onto carries face to show that she is scared and alone. Because of the references to the bible and the mother forcing Carrie to pray shows that this film is very religious and religious theme are well known in the horror industry to go wrong, and it relates the the devil. The quick mid shot of the mother banging her head against the wall shows that she feels that Carrie is out of control. The shot of her walking down the library ail shows more of the setting, it also tell the audience more about the character and because she is holding books show that she is very geeky like although doesn't look like it. The editing is really good as you first get a shot of a nice scene with soothing soundtrack, then you get a quick shot of people screaming running and blood with a very low tone drumming sound. This shows the audience that this is a horror. The title is very effective as the blood is well seen against the white of the righting and the end suggesting that this likely to be a gory horror.
