In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Using Conventions
Number 1: We used the location of the library so that we could show the age of the character, this is a convention as horror usually star younger teens as they are immature and venerable. This then creates a sense of realism as school is a normal everyday place.
Number 2: We used Vulnerable girl getting dragged along the floor is a classic horror shot, This shows the genre of our film and also starts to build up the tension towards the fast pace shots at the end. We used the conventional young, pretty blonde as this would open our audience wider.
Number 3: Having loads of quick shots at the end to build up the tension and tone of the trailer. This is common feature that is in many trailer because it draws the audience in, which mean they want to watch it. It also gives an over all narrative without giving away to much of the plot.

Developing Convention
Number 1: Because of our paranormal genre usually one person get possessed but we decided that we were going to have more than one person that gets possessed. We developed by showing some short clips in our trailer. We used both a male and female who were trying to kill this then opens our audience wider, this is because it apples to both sex. We wanted to open our audience to the male audience too as we found it was females aged 18-25 that watch more paranormal horrors compared to the male audience.
Number 2: We had the book referencing throughout our horror trailer so that the audience watching knows that its a religious element which then links in with the devil which our horror is about. We developed this more as we wanted the religious element to clear to our audience so that they understood more of the plot of the horror.
Number 3: We developed the mysterious creepy tone by keeping a blue/grey colour throughout our trailer this was so that it looked cold, and cold has a very negative connotations. This also then added to the build up tension at the end making the audience scared.

Challenging Conventions
Number 1: We challenged media conversations as we didn't have the blonde getting stabbed or get possessed, we decided to have the Burnett as the victim to break this horror convention.
Number 2: We decided that instead of the girl creating a problem we had a man. This is because men are more curious so when he finds the book and opens it, the devil is released.

Our Poster:
We had the face coming out the book because it looks like she is struggling and cannot escape the devil which lives within the book, this is why we had her screaming. We decided that red would be a good convention to uses on our poster as it represents blood and danger, this shows our audience what genre our film is.
By putting the 666 title over her eyes relates to the tag line and creates a more sinister and depressing tone. Our poster does break conventions as it hasn't got any institutional writing at the bottom, we did this because it didn't fit right on our background of the book because of all the words on the pages and to make it look it more original. |
Our Magazine:
Instead of having the victim on the front page we have the, unconventional blonde, final girl. We wanted the beautiful blonde on the cover as we wanted to open our audience wider (the opposite sex.) We decided to have the writing in red so that it stood out compared to the background also it has connotations of blood and danger. This then links in with our magazine having a horror Halloween special. But instead of keep the Halloween orange we chose gold as gold has connotations of winning, as 1st place is a gold medal. We did this as we wanted our audience to see that our horror is good and appeal to them to persuade them to watch it.
